Exploring the living world — from cells and genetics to ecosystems and human physiology — through rigorous science and hands-on laboratory study, developing the expertise to teach life sciences with confidence and inspiration.
The Department of Biology provides a comprehensive life sciences education covering cell biology, genetics, microbiology, ecology, botany, zoology, and human anatomy and physiology. The curriculum combines rigorous theoretical study with regular laboratory sessions that develop practical scientific skills and a genuine understanding of biological systems.
Students are trained to understand life at every scale — from molecular mechanisms to ecosystem dynamics — and to apply that understanding in the Iraqi school classroom through specialised biology teaching methods courses.
Department faculty are active in biological research with expertise spanning microbiology, molecular biology, plant science, and environmental biology, ensuring that undergraduate teaching is informed by current scientific knowledge and genuine passion for the living world.
